Wanda (McMillen) Harris, age 82, joined her Heavenly Father on January 19, 2021. Born at home on February 24, 1938 to the late Dwight and Sarah (McConnell) McMillen of Kistler, Wanda is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Lee Harris. Wanda is survived by her daughter, Beth Ann Harris-Jackson of Harrisburg; two sisters: Lucille Snyder of Palmyra and Janice (Floyd) Hench of Mechanicsburg; and a brother: Carl “Whitey” McMillen of Kistler. In addition to her parents and husband, Wanda is preceded in death by her sister, Bernice Dovey and her brother, Ray McMillen. Elvis, Wanda’s favorite family cat, and Fred Jackson, Wanda’s favorite son-in-law, have also predeceased her. Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, and mother-in-law.
She was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Loysville, where she sang in the choir. Prior to being a wonderful wife and mother, Wanda graduated Blain Union High School and Shippensburg University with a degree in Education. She was crowned May Queen of Blain Union High School in 1955. Wanda lived a quiet family-focused life. She enjoyed her daily walking trips to her favorite local corner-store to pick up her favorite snack, a Tastykake coffee cake, an Iced Tea, and a Coca-Cola. She loved to iron, bake cakes, play the piano, and shop for purses and shoes.
The viewing for Wanda will be held at Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home in Loysville, in the newly renovated chapel, on Thursday, January 28 from 4 to 6 PM. The graveside funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery on Friday, January 29 at 11 AM. These services will follow the COVID parameters of social distancing with masks required. Seating will be provided for the immediate family only at graveside, so please consider providing your own folding chair if you need to sit down during this service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Wanda’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090 and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 5593 Shermans Valley Rd, Loysville, PA 17047.
