Lorene (McMillen) Haas, 93, of Loysville passed away peacefully at Perry Village on April 26, 2023. Lorene was born May 29, 1929 at home in the McMillen farmhouse to the late Reed and Nellie (Hench) McMillen of Kistler. She is survived by four sons: Gary (Lucinda) Haas of Millerstown, Dale (Sally) Haas of Elliottsburg, Dan (Rhonda) Haas of Elliottsburg, and Tom (Sue) Haas of Williamsburg, PA; eleven grandchildren; lots and lots of great grandchildren; and two sisters: Miriam (Richard) Frantz of Riverside, CA and Adelaide (Perry) Kretzing of Loysville. In addition to her parents, Lorene was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 70 years, Dale Haas, who died December 13, 2020; and a sister-in-law, Carilu Lehman.
Lorene graduated with the 1946 Class of Blain High School and continued her education at Mansfield University, from where she graduated in 1950 with her bachelor’s degree in Education. She continued to take post graduate classes at Shippensburg University. Lorene retired as a teacher (both Special Education and Home Economics) in 1986 from West Perry School District after many decades of service. She was a lifetime member of local, state, and national teacher/education associations.
Lorene was an active member at her church, New Hope United Church of Christ, where she was an amazing Sunday School teacher. In her free time, she volunteered with the Landisburg Ambulance and Fire Companies and the Ickesburg Lions Club.
Funeral services for Lorene will be held at New Hope United Church of Christ in Landisburg on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. The viewing will be from 9 to 11 AM, immediately followed by the funeral service at 11 AM, with the Rev. Josh Craley officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Centre Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Lorene’s name to her church, New Hope United Church of Christ, PO Box 343 Landisburg, PA 17040.
