Jill Renee (Shope) Adair of Shermans Dale, age 44, passed away on April 19, 2023 after courageously battling cancer for over three years.  Born December 28, 1978 in Carlisle to William Andrew “Andy” and Virginia “Ginny” (Vaughn) Shope of Shermans Dale, Jill was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and co-worker.  In addition to her parents, Jill is survived by her loving husband, Derrick Adair and their two beautiful girls:  Tobin Ruth and Allie Joan.  Jill and Derrick were married on September 20, 2014.  She is also survived by two brothers:  William Andrew (Diane) Shope, Jr. of Landisburg and Nicholas (Kimberly) Shope of Shermans Dale; eight nieces and nephews:  Dylan, Emma, Paige, Lilly, Graham, Gavin, Sophie, and Sutton; parents-in-law, Daniel and Kelly (Moffatt) Adair of Loysville; sister-in-law, Lauren (Nate) Burd of Pittsburgh; and Derrick’s two grandmothers:  Kay Moffat and Joan Adair.  Jill was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents:  Floyd and Ruth (Parkison) Vaughn and Neil and Helen (Towsey) Shope.

Jill graduated with honors in the 1997 class of West Perry High School and then again, as an honor student, in the 2001 class of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Marine Science.  She started her career as a Chemistry Technician in 2002 with the Pennsylvania State Police, Harrisburg Regional Laboratory, Bureau of Forensic Services, then was promoted to Forensic Scientist and also served as Laboratory Systems Quality Specialist from 2007 – 2015.  Her final position was as a Forensic Scientist in the Serology Section.  She served the PSP for over 20 years.  She was a member of two professional organizations:  American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts.

In addition to working as a scientist, Jill was simultaneously raising a family with her husband.  She was a community volunteer and loved serving others.  She was actively involved in the New Bloomfield Elementary PTO and as a lay member of Shermans Dale Church, where she served as the Council Chair, recording secretary, pastor-parish relations committee, AA and Al-Anon coordinator, and family events planner.  Her priorities were her daughters, family, church, and work.
