James R. Wilt, 73, of Landisburg passed from this earth and joined his Heavenly Father on January 5, 2021. Jim was born in Carlisle on February 16, 1947 to the late Richard and Martha (McAllister) Wilt. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Linda (Burkholder) Wilt, a son, Steven (Traci) Wilt of Landisburg, and his mother-in-law, Velma Burkholder. In addition to his wife, son, and mother-in-law, Jim is survived by two grandchildren: Michael Wilt of Loysville and Alysia Wilt of Canton, GA; two step grandchildren: Sarah (Dalton) Reapsome of Loysville and Logan Smith of Landisburg; and two sisters: Constance (Harold) Lupp and SueEllen (John) McElhiney, both of Landisburg.
Jim graduated with the class of 1965 of West Perry High School, and proudly served his country in the Air Force, as an Airman. His military career was spent flying missions in and out of Vietnam. Jim retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission as a bridge engineer in 1997. He was “retired” one year, and then went back to work for several consultants with the PA Turnpike Commission as a bridge engineer. He genuinely enjoyed his work.
Jim was a member at the New Hope United Church of Christ in Landisburg, where he enjoyed volunteering for service, as needed. He was also a member of the Landisburg Fire Company, Landisburg Ambulance, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting deer and fishing. He deeply loved his family – especially the grandchildren. Jim was a “rough and tough on the outside” type of guy, but a teddy bear on the inside.
It was Jim’s wishes to have no funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jim’s name to New Hope United Church of Christ, 108 S. Carlisle Street, Landisburg, PA 17040.
Arrangement entrusted to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc., located in Loysville, PA.
