James Burnham

James A. Burnham, 85, better known as “Pap” to many, went home to the Lord on August 10, 2022.  His final days were spent at home, as he wanted, surrounded by his family.  James was born on August 5, 1937 to the late Solomon and Rhama (Engle) Burnham. He is survived by his amazing wife of 65 years, Eva Joanne (Lightner) Burnham; his three children: Sherry (Robert) Brubaker of Mt. Joy, James E. Burnham of Blain, and Scott (Stephanie) Burnham of Blain; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister Rozelle Burnham and two half brothers: Junior and Robert Swartz.

James was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Blain, having created the “back room” with fellow church member and friend Ronald Shields.

James worked in maintenance for The Quaker Oats Company for 21 years, and for twelve of those years also owned and operated the Blain Hotel and Restaurant.  In more recent years he was invaluable helping to start his granddaughter’s farming business.

James was a wealth of knowledge, he could fix anything.  James took pleasure in helping others, solving problems and finding answers, never expecting or wanting anything in return. He will be missed by many, and we are all better people for having known him.

A private, family memorial service will be held for James.  Arrangements are entrusted to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home in Loysville, PA.
