Gwenda Lou (Gleim) Zakis, 82 of New Bloomfield, joined her Heavenly Father on October 22, 2022. Born in Harrisburg on June 22, 1940 to the late Guy Gleim and Alfretta (Kegris) Gleim Howe, Gwenda is survived by her four children: Kevin (Jennifer) Zakis of New Bloomfield, Chadd (Tracy) Zakis of Appling, GA, Karri (Andrew) Zakis Shearer of Birdsboro, and Christy Zakis of Mechanicsburg; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and her sister: Beverly Sheaffer of Harrisburg. In addition to her parents, Gwenda is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 59 years, Michael Spiro Zakis, who died in 2017; a son, Michael Zakis, Jr.; and two siblings: Joyce Otten and Ronald Howe. Gwenda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She always put family first and was generous, giving and loving.
In addition to raising a family and running a household, Gwenda worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Holy Spirit Hospital, from where she retired after 25 years of service. In her “free” time, Gwenda faithfully served her community as an active member of New Bloomfield United Methodist Church. She was a member of Women in Faith and the We Care Team. She volunteered at the life bank, worked diligently as a Trustee, and gave of her gifts as an artist of worship displays. Her family (and the rest of the world) will miss her dearly!
A Celebration of Gwenda’s Life is being planned for the future.
