Ethel Hockenbroch, age 96, was found deceased in her Wesley House apartment on July 7, 2020. Born on November 22, 1923 to the late Harry Daniel and Mamie Isabelle (Casey) Engle in Dalmatia, Pennsylvania, Ethel is survived by her grandson Eric Hockenbroch of Lewisberry, her great granddaughter Katrina Hockenbroch of New Cumberland, and her great great grandson Zeyke Hockenbroch of New Cumberland. Ethel will also be missed by her feline companion, Sasha. Ethel was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother for many generations. Ethel felt every day she awoke was a blessing, and dressed to impress – make up, jewelry, and classy outfits – all before breakfast.
Ethel lived for and loved her family. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart, and the man she shared 63 years of wedded bliss, Glenn Hockenbroch. In addition to her late husband, she is also preceded in death by both an infant and adult son, Dennis and Randall Hockenbroch, respectively, and a sister, Jennie Schadle. Ethel was a strong woman, who never had a bad day. She was non-judgmental and accepted everyone she met for who they were.
She was a member of the Treasure Hill Presbyterian Church in Harlington, Texas, where she lived for 29 years before moving to Pennsylvania, after Glenn died. She retired as a motel manager of the now closed Sheffer Hotel in Harrisburg. Ethel loved to square dance with Glenn. The two of them toured all 50 states by attending square dances as they traveled. She was an avid Western movie addict, a lady of Faith, honest, giving, loving and unselfish.
Ethel’s celebration of life will be privately held at the convenience of the family at a later date due to COVID.
