Dean A. Naugle, age 86, passed away on December 20, 2022 in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loving family. Born in Gettysburg on November 18, 1936 to the late Arthur Edward and Jean (Donaldson) Naugle, he was a good husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, Dean is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Erika (Kaseberg) Naugle, who died in 2018. Dean is survived by his two sons: Walter Naugle and Timothy (Lisa) Naugle, both of Blain; four grandchildren: Kimberly, Dana (Bill) and Cory, all of Blain, and Dylan Naugle of Elliottsburg; and three great grandchildren: Matthew, Adam and Andi.
After high school, Dean studied auto mechanics in Chicago. Using his skills and training, Dean worked as a mechanic for Halls Trucking, Overnight and Roadway before retiring from Teamsters to his farm and part time alternator repair business. He was a High Priest of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in New Bloomfield and founder of Boy Scout Troop # 105. He passionately and proudly served the Boy Scouts as a leader and traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch BSA, where the local boys went to New Mexico for High Adventure challenges.
Dean’s personality and character were visible by witnessing his inseparable companionship with his dog, Mystique. He was usually seen with his cowboy hat and boots on while tending his chickens or singing and dancing to some Bluegrass. He spent his years traveling with Erika in his RV and loved carving canes and figurines.
A memorial service is currently being planned for January 2023. More details will be posted to the website as they become available.
