Charles Kirk Smith

Charles “Kirk” Smith, 71 of Carlisle, passed away on August 13, 2022.  He was born September 30, 1950 to the late Charles D. and Esther (Milligan) Smith of Loysville.  Kirk is survived by his son, Clint Smith of Carlisle; six grandsons, one great granddaughter, and numerous cousins.  In addition to his parents, Kirk is preceded in death by his two sons:  Craig M. and Charles “Landon” Smith; and his brother, Tommy V. Smith.

After completion of high school, Kirk continued his education at Lincoln Technical School.  He worked as a roofer for several years as well as at Capitol Products in Mechanicsburg.  He retired from the Maintenance Department for Ross Department Stores East Coast Distribution Center in Carlisle.  He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Loysville, American Legion Post 421 in Newville, and the New Bloomfield VFW Post 7463.

In his spare time, Kirk enjoyed going to his Camp, and all related activities.  He loved the outdoors, drinking beer, hunting, fishing, and riding four wheelers with friends and family.  He enjoyed playing cards including the card game HORSE.  Described as “quite the character” and “Captain Kirk”, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A Gathering of Friends will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022 in the newly renovated chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home in Loysville from 4 to 6 PM.  This Gathering will be a time to pay condolences and remember the good times spent with Kirk.  Please come prepared to share a written memory for the family to read later as they grieve privately.
