Bruce Winfield Eichmann Sr, 90, passed away peacefully in his home in New Germantown, PA on Sunday April 25, 2021. He was born July 10, 1930 to George and Dorothy Eichmann of Collingswood, NJ. He served six years in the Army and was honorably discharged in January 1957 with the rank of Sergeant.
Bruce’s career was a long one in the field of Engineering. He started in 1949 as a draftsman for New York Shipbuilding Corporation and was a project manager at three different consulting firms before settling in with Medford Township’s Municipal Utilities Department in 1966. There, he became Director of the department, holding four professional licenses in wastewater management. He was also responsible for bringing public water to the Township and designing its sewage treatment plant. He retired in June 1995, opened a home office, and became a consultant in water and wastewater operations.
He was an accomplished singer and musician, a member of the Blain Lions Club, and in his spare time, he could be seen painting in his home studio. His favorite subjects to paint were landscapes, seascapes, portraits, still lives and historical pieces. Many of his historical paintings were modeled after family and friends. He was a teacher in Art Instruction at Lenape Regional High School and also a member of the Burlington County Art Guild in NJ.
Bruce also loved ham radio. He possessed an Amateur Extra Class FCC radio license and was a past president and served on the Board of the South Jersey Radio Association. He participated in Amateur Radio Theory Instruction and held an elected position of Section Manager in the Southern NJ section of the American Radio Relay League from 1990 to 1996, which is a national organization. He won the Amateur of the Year Award in 1981.
He is survived by the love of his life, and wife of 10 years, Lorene (Kessler) Eichmann of New Germantown, PA, his six children: Susan Gardner of Marlton, NJ, Bruce W. Eichmann Jr. of Shamong, NJ, Jody Corothers (Bruce) of Marietta, GA, Tine Bowers (Alan) of Bozeman, MT, Elizabeth Beaumont (Mark) of Tabernacle, NJ, Matthew Eichmann (Jodi) of Burlington, NJ; his eleven grandchildren: Jennifer, Brian, Brittany, Joshua, Brynn, Jack and Jacob all of NJ, Bruce Jr, Gwendolyn and Kathryn of GA and Jeffrey of MT; as well as 13 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by two sisters: Janice Eichmann and Linda Sutphin, both of NJ. In addition to his late parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Eichmann.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 16 at the New Germantown United Methodist Church, located at 3390 Big Spring Road, Blain, PA 17006. A time of gathering of friends will begin at 1:30 PM, with the service beginning at 2 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in Bruce’s name to AseraCare Hospice or New Germantown United Methodist Church, where he was a member for nine years.
