Sylvia Mae Kerstetter

Sylvia (Crawford) Kerstetter, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 4, 2019, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in York, PA. 

Born November 5, 1928, in Perry County, PA; she was the second child of six, born to the late Luther A. Crawford and Alice C. (Sweger) Crawford of Ickesburg, PA.  Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alvin L. Kerstetter (1924-2005) and four of her siblings; LaRue Schlusser, Luther Crawford Jr., James Crawford, and Robert Crawford.  She is survived by her younger sister, Yvonne Trout (of New Bloomfield, PA); her three children; Linda Delp and her husband Dennis Delp of York, PA; Brenda Tuttle of Alexandria, VA; and Neil Kerstetter and his wife April Kerstetter of Elizabethtown, PA; as well as six grandsons, twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was a spirited woman who enjoyed bowling in her younger days and was a champion Canasta and Pinochle player with a great poker face.  In her early twenties, she was swept off her feet by a tall, handsome young man at church and subsequently married Alvin Kerstetter in 1950.  They spent the first eight years of marriage in Edgewater, NJ, while Alvin worked in New York City.  Two daughters were born there before they relocated to Harrisburg, PA, where their son was born.  Sylvia and Alvin were long-time members of the 29th Street United Methodist Church in Harrisburg and they traveled extensively with the church’s Golden Agers group.  Their European vacation was one of the many highlights of their 55 years together.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019, at the Nickel-Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, 3626 Shermans Valley Road, Loysville, PA. with Rev. Elaine Moyer officiating.  Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery, also in Loysville.
