Marvin R. Emlet
Marvin Ray Emlet, 85, of Loysville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 9, 2018 with family at his bedside at the West Shore Hospital. Born in Loysville on December 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Arthur R. Emlet and E. Louise (Gerlach) Emlet.
Marvin graduated from Green Park Union High School in 1951. He served in Korea with the United States Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked with the family business, Emlet Brothers, which handled eggs and poultry. Subsequently, he owned Emlet’s Grocery, which he operated until 1980. He then worked as a rural mail carrier at the Loysville Post Office until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, turkey and deer hunting, gardening, and traveling. Marvin loved his family deeply and he particularly enjoyed time with his grandchildren Lydia and Luke. He was a life-long member of Tressler Memorial Free Lutheran Church where he sang bass in the choir and served on the church council and as Sunday School treasurer. Marvin was a quiet man with a big heart and a ready smile for everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Miriam L. (Nearhood) Emlet; son Michael R. Emlet and wife Jody of Elkins Park, PA; daughter Mileen K. Emlet of Loysville; sister Phyllis R. (Emlet) Milligan and husband Robert of Carlisle; grandchildren Lydia and Luke Emlet; nephew Jerry Emlet; nieces Melanie Matthews, Marla Shull, Crista Lyons, Melinda Williams, Michele Eshenour, and Lori Weaver. Marvin was preceded in death by his nephew David D. Emlet and brother Ronald D. Emlet.
A viewing for Marvin will be held Friday April 13, 2018 from 6-8 PM at the Nickel-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, 3626 Shermans Valley Road, Loysville, PA. Mr. Emlet’s body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service at the church which will be on Saturday April 14, 2018 at 11 AM at Tressler Memorial Free Lutheran Church, Loysville, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tressler Memorial Free Lutheran Church, 3581 Shermans Valley Road, Loysville, PA 17047.
