CARLISLE, PENNSYLVANIA
Hazel R. Baer Swarner, 101 and six months, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 5, 2018 at home.
Born February 5, 1917 in Landisburg, Hazel was the daughter of Luther A. and Edna R. Garlin Baer of Landisburg, and the widow of John G. “Jack” Swarner, who died February 21, 1970.
Hazel owned and operated Hazel’s Beauty Shop for 60 years and was a member of Carlisle First Church of God for 70 years, where she taught Sunday school for decades.
She is survived by a son, John B. “Barry” Swarner and wife, Barbara, of Shermans Dale, and a sister, Doris E. Smith, of Newport. She is also survived by five granddaughters: Lori M. Hoffman and husband, Terry; Tammie L. Gitt; Lisa M. Fry and husband, Warren; Amy L. Lyke and Jodi L. Gitt and fiance, Jesse Etter.
Hazel is also survived by great-grandchildren Morgan Sheffield and husband, Dustin; Janelle Thomas and husband, Jason; Mackenzie Hoffman and wife, Samantha; Jarret Garman, Melissa Fry and Jonathan Fry as well as seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda L. Gitt, and her brothers, Elwood T.M., Frederick and Teddy E.; and her sisters, Geraldine Brownawell and Delois Sanders.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 10 at Nickel-Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home Inc., Loysville.
Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Loysville. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
