Donald John Sanders

WAYNESBORO, PENNSYLVANIA

Donald John Sanders, age 83, of Waynesboro was called home on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the Falling Springs Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home, Chambersburg, PA.

Born January 24, 1936 in Waynesboro he was the son of the late Vincent J. Sanders Jr. and Viola (O’toole) Sanders.

He was a graduate of Waynesboro Area Sr. High School class of 1954.

Mr. Sanders was a U.S. Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.

On April 14, 1989 in Hagerstown, Maryland he married his beloved late wife Carole M. (Weaklem) Sanders who died on August 29, 2011.

Mr. Sanders was last employed until his retirement as the janitor at St. Andrew’s the Apostle Church and School.  Prior to that he had been employed at Stanley in Chambersburg until the fire.  In his earlier years he had been employed as the events director at the Knotts Arena at Mt. St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD.

Donald was a member of St. Andrew’s the Apostle Church.

He is survived by a son Robert “Bud” J. Moore of Waynesboro; four granddaughters Jessica Johns Renshaw of Mercersburg; Alexandria Johns of Greencastle; Celeste Auman and her husband Andrew of Waynesboro and Amber Moore and her companion Amy Cooper of Waynesboro; 3 great grandchildren and 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 11 A.M. in St. Andrew’s the Apostle Church, corners of E. Main and S. Broad Streets, Waynesboro.   Father Rev.  Robert Malagesi, MSSCC celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Andrews the Apostle Church Cemetery with full military honors by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard, Chambersburg.  The family will receive friends from 9 A.M. to 10.AM in the Lochstampfor Funeral Home, Inc., corners of S. Church and W. Second Streets, Waynesboro, PA. and processing to St. Andrews the Apostle Church of Mass.
