Daniel R. Soulier, 63, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Carolyn's House in Harrisburg, PA. Dan's life passion was the Fire Service, and so he made it his career. Through both volunteer and paid service, he earned the position of Chief of Harrisburg Bureau of Fire and Chief of Camp Hill Fire Department. Fire Safety and Prevention was his specialty at Fairview Twp. Fire Dept.
Dan was born in Harrisburg PA on April 24, 1954 to Frank and Jane Soulier. A 1972 graduate of Cedar Cliff H.S., he received his degree in Fire Science Technology from Harrisburg Area Community College. He attended the National Fire Academy in Maryland and at HACC, and studied disaster management at FEMA. Dan wore Badge #97 for Harrisburg Bureau of Fire since 1979 and retired as Chief of the Bureau in 2009. He developed the South Central Pennsylvania Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention Program and was instrumental in establishing the Lochiel Emerald Society Pipes and Drums in Harrisburg and enjoyed serving as Drum Major. For many years, he promoted fire safety through a local TV news series, Engine 21. He was an Associate at the Pennsylvania National Fire Museum. The Chief was an advocate, leader, visionary, mentor and teacher for all central Pennsylvania's fire service brotherhood.
Dan's survivors include his wife, Joann (Kingsborough), their children Ben, a firefighter with Anne Arundel County, MD (Hope), Justin (Brooke), Nicole Roberts, and one grandchild. Mourning the loss of their baby brother and his quick wit, sense of adventure, love of Huskies and Jeeps, elaborate stories and fond memories are his siblings Frank (Ruth), Mary Heinlen (Ron) and Fred (Joan).
A celebration of Dan's life and his community service will be planned for the summer.
