Robert Nesbit Obituary

Robert L. Nesbit, age 82 of Landisburg, passed away after a short illness on March 1, 2024.  Known to most as “Pappy”, Robert was born at home to the late Robert Suiter and Ruth Viola (Beichler) Nesbit of Elliottsburg on January 21, 1942.  He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Charlotte Mae (Weaver) Nesbit, who died June 24, 2023; his son, Dennis A. Nesbit, who died tragically in 2000; his great grandson, William, who died in 2017; and his siblings:  Peg N. Putt, Shirley J. Nesbit, Barry L. Nesbit, and Charlie B. Nesbit.  Robert is survived by his son, Douglas A. Nesbit of Landisburg; two grandchildren:  Derek L. Nesbit (Amy) of New Germantown and Carly J. Nesbit of Landisburg; four great grandchildren:  Mercedes, Leyna, Aaliyah, and Denni; and two great great grandchildren, Dominic and Wrenley.

Robert worked hard all his life and had an uncanny knack for fixing anything mechanical.  He was a professional mechanic for several local car dealers and garages including Curtis Ford, C&W Equipment, Midway, Bill Womer, Norm Black, and Dick Murray.  Later in life, his son Doug taught him the trade of millwork – building commercial doors.  He retired in 2007 from BWI Distribution.  His millwork career also included Morgan Products.

Robert’s strong dedication to providing for his family, with both his love and support, will be greatly missed.  He never allowed an opportunity to pass by to instigate a challenge among the family – just to get one of them to smile!  You could always call him and describe a weird noise your vehicle was making and he would correctly diagnose it.  He had a way of going head-on into a project and stubbornly would not accept that he couldn’t complete it.  He didn’t smile often, but when he was around his grands (grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren), his smile never faded.  He always made sure he attended everything his grands were involved in.

An “Open House” style of viewing and time to wish condolences and reminisce with the family will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 in the calming chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. in Loysville from 6 to 8 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations to help cover Robert’s funeral expenses can be made to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc., PO Box 910, 3626 Shermans Valley Road, Loysville, PA  17047.
