Kay L. (Simonton) Shambaugh, age 86 of Elliottsburg, entered into eternal rest on March 13, 2024, after battling dementia for almost six years. Affectionately known as Mom, Kay, or Nana, she was born at home on June 16, 1937 to the late Lester Jacob and Margaret Kathryn (Kochenderfer) Simonton of Ickesburg. She grew up on a dairy farm in Ickesburg, and then continued to live on a dairy farm in Green Park.
Kay is survived by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 70 years, Ronald “Ronnie” Wayne Shambaugh; two children: Deena J. Shambaugh Fry (Chuck) of Loysville, and John L. Shambaugh (Lori) of Landisburg; seven grandchildren: BJ Barns (Christine) of Gainesville, GA, Ryann Etter (Matt) of Loysville, Mike Bolze of Harrisburg, and Tomi Bolze of Lebanon, David Shambaugh (Samantha) of Duncannon, Jessica Hinkle (Ryan) of Landisburg, and Katie Shambaugh of Pensacola, FL; ten great grandchildren: Evan, Jackson, Walker, Dylann, Marshall, Nika, Luka, Avery, Ella, and Ryan; and her brother, Jacob Samuel Simonton (Maria) of Loysville. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Kay was a member of the Class of 1955 of Green Park Union. She also completed Cosmetology School and worked as a hairdresser for Donna Bolze Beauty Salon in Loysville. She later opened and operated her own beauty salon, from which she retired in 1976. After her retirement, she worked at Harrison’s Greenhouse in New Bloomfield. She was also a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Kay loved being outside and working in her flower beds and garden. She passionately searched for special antiques – particularly furniture to restore. Her favorite pastime was always attending ball games with family. Family and friends would list Kay’s most famous pastime as baking (and delivering when necessary) pies. The grandchildren, nieces and nephews would tell you that Kay never let you leave her home hungry. She is finally at peace. Her spirit will continue to shine for those of us who loved her.
Kay’s memorial service will be held on Friday, March 22 at 11 AM at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 70 Limestone Road, Elliottsburg, with Pastor Eric Petty officiating. Inurnment will be privately held in Elliottsburg Evangelical Cemetery.
Arrangements entrusted to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. of Loysville.
