Frank Garress Obituary

Frank E. Garress, Jr., known to most as “Buckie”, age 94 of Mechanicsburg, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 1, 2024.  Born on December 22, 1929 in Coatesville to the late Eli Franklin Garress, Sr. and Mary (Marsh) Dietz, Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Beverly J. (Syphard) Garress; two children:  Robin L. Compton of Millerstown and Franklin J. Garress (Bonnie) of Chillicothe, OH; five grandchildren:  Nick Garress (Jill) of Columbus, OH, Miranda Rinehart (Ryan) of Chillicothe, OH, Joanna Rine (Justin) of Shermans Dale, Thomas Compton of Millerstown, and Kelly Compton (Benny) of Thompsontown; six great grandchildren:  Reid, Gracie, Rocky, Ruby, Tyler, and Macey; and four siblings:  Marianne Scott (Sonny) of Lady Lake, FL, Darlene Painter (Clyde) of New Castle, DE, Eugene Dietz (Peggy) of FL, and Richard Dietz of both Lewes, DE and Ocala, FL.  In addition to his parents, Frank is preceded in death by two children:  Kathleen M. Garress and Dennis L Garress (infant); and five siblings:  Helen Pennell, Doris Hash, Charles Garness, Betty Young, and Chester Garress.

After high school, Frank promptly and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1950, where he served aboard the USS Coral Sea.  Upon returning to civilian life, he became a “Salesman of Underground Real Estate” for Philadelphia Memorial Park.  He sold cemetery lots for the cemetery – until the age of 83!  Frank was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.  In addition to an excellent work ethic, Frank loved golfing and was a lifetime member of Post #845 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Downingtown.

The funeral services for Frank will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
