Ann L. (Bishop) Smith of Carlisle, and formerly of Perry County, passed away peacefully with her son by her side on March 22, 2024. Born in Carlisle on December 23, 1949 to the late Jesse and Edna (Hockenberry) Bishop, Ann is survived by her son, Jonathan Smith of Harrisburg; granddaughter, Gabby Sheaffer of Harrisburg; and sister, Jane Johnson of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Tim Smith, who died tragically in 1988; and her sister Patricia Lehman.
Ann was a member of the 1967 Class of West Perry High School. She has spent her entire life helping people. Her early years were spent in California, where she taught CPR and volunteered with a local ambulance company. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, Ann helped run her family’s country grocery store with her parents, until Bishop’s Store closed in 2001. Ann then combined her love of helping people with her medical background and became the office manager for Sporting Hill Family Practice, and then a secretary at Highmark.
In her free time, Ann enjoyed travelling and spending time with her son and granddaughter. She loved walking along the shore or along the mountain trail. She enjoyed nature, flowers, sunrises, sunsets, and country crafts.
An “Open House” style of visitation will be held for Ann on Friday, April 5 in the calming chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. from 5 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Hospice of Central PA, online at https://form-renderer-app.donorperfect.io/give/hospice-of-central-pennsylvania/memorials or by mail at: 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110
